“Merton Downs is an oasis from life’s busy stream. They are the most amazing hosts who will make you feel completely at home and welcome, spend time with you and your children if you wish but also give you time to yourselves in complete privacy.

The house is beautiful and so well appointed you won’t want to leave.

The farm itself is majestic – the perfect place to sit back and relax, take a walk or play with an array of farm animals. A terrific base for exploring the surrounding Strathbogie Ranges. Also a perfect base for a trip up to Buller with the heated drying room available for snow gear.

“The hosts were very welcoming and communication was great. The house is freshly furnished and comfortable. The kids loved feeding the farm animals and the fenced yard was ideal for our dog.”

“My husband, three kids (7, 5 and 1) and I had a fantastic stay here. The rammed earth house was beautiful and the four bedrooms fit us more than comfortably. The wood fire made the house feel cosy and the fog rolling over the hills in the early winter mornings was breathtaking.

The hosts went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, including wood for the fireplace, and milk, bread, wine and cheeses for us and lollies for the kids! We had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook meals for the family.

A highlight for the kids was being able to hand-feed the animals — cows, sheep and chickens. (We needed our gumboots! And having a laundry meant we could easily wash our clothes.)

It was also nice to explore the area and to do a few walks in the hills. It’s a beautiful part of the Victoria!”

“This was such a wonderful experience for the family. The farm for the kids was amazing, with such amazing hosts and so accommodating and generous with his time taking us around each day to feed the animals such a joy. Location was so good. One day we were at the top of Mt Stirling visiting Craig’s Hut, the next by the water at Lake Eildon. Perfect spot for day trips to the surrounds, or just staying at the property enjoying the surrounds, sitting by the outdoor fire and enjoying a wine. and toasting marshmallows, like we did. This is a must stay, we will be back.”
